What is iDesign

The purpose of the iDesign project is to develop technological fluency in underrepresented minority youth by supporting them in the creation of interactive computer games that are culturally and socially relevant. This project is a collaborative effort between Hofstra University and ten middle schools in New York City and suburban Long Island, all motivated to use rich new learning environments to improve their underserved students’ STEM understanding. The project will engage 6th-9th grade students and their teachers in interactive after-school Game Design Clubs, a Summer Institute in which teachers learn to use innovative digital pedagogy, a dynamic Summer Academy that will train student leaders, and multiple experiences in which students learn about careers in game design.
